I owned a VFP app which was being licensed to one of my clients and was paying OK.
It essentially was a work flow system that expanded to include inventory management. One day they came to me and said their client wanted to see all of their product on-line 24/7 and it couldn't be hosted at the production facility due to poor internet connectivity.
If I couldn't convert in 2 weeks, I would loose the contract!!!
I knew NOTHING about the web, but a buddy of mine knew someone who knew of Rick's WebConnect and said it might make it possible. (I didn't have much hope.)
Because WC abstracted out the entire IIS interface, I was able to simply move a large part of the existing shop floor inventory code to WC. The main work necessary was to learn about Request/Response processing and generate HTML/JS code instead of talking to forms. (I did have to build a DB "sync" app to allow it to run on a remote server, but that is another story)
Anyway, that was back in 2005 and the client was amazed. Initially we got a couple hundred hits a day, but by 2010 we were getting an avg of 15,000 per day. Currently they avg 38,000 to 42,000 and we even hit 48,000+ one day! (Still waiting on out first 50k day)
Due to the stability of the overall system and the things I have been able to do using some of the tools, last year I was able to sell my system to my client for a very nice ROI.
Rick, I just wanted you to know there are people out here that owe their success to your dedication to excellence, immense knowledge and willingness to help others.
Good luck and thanks.
