We'll be setting up a 'Web Development in Visual FoxPro' user group at SWFox at 7PM on one of the conference days. I plan some demos and general discussion of tips, techniques and tools.

It's getting to be time for those of us who are attending Southwest Fox 2013 to start making travel arrangements. Can you provide any update on the likelihood of a Web Connection training being offered in conjunction with the conference this year?

Hi all,

It's that time of year again to plan for training at Southwest Fox in October and I'm trying to gauge whether it's worth to do training there this year again, especially since I skipped last year.

If possible I would like to see a show of hands (reply to this message :-)) of who's interested with any possibility of attending. The planned dates would be the two days preceeding the Southwest Fox in October - the 16th and 17th. If you think you might be interested and could actually attend - please reply here.

Why Ask?
Last year I went through the motions of setting up for the conference only to find that sign up rates were non-existant by the second deadline date just before August, which made me pull the plug. At the time there were two signups. Of course - as these things go, when I was at Southwest Fox for the main conference quite a few people mentioned that "Oh by the way, I wanted to come to training this year, only you didn't have it" and said that they would have loved to come, of course :-)

The problem is one of logistics. Basically it's very expensive to do training unless you have a minimum number of attendees. The cutoff for break-even is somewhere between 12 and 15 people typically, so this is what I shoot for and my general rule for doing a conference is that I have to get half of that minimum by the second early bird signup date which is usually 2 months ahead of the actual conference. If not - that's when I get worried and probably pull the plug as last year.

I know last year quite a few folks were talking to me at the main conference saying that they really wanted to see training - we probably would have had enough to make the minimum maybe even a little over.

So here we are once again and I would like to see a show of hands of people who would be interested in training before Southwest Fox.

There are two choices for training I could do:

  • The tried and true introductory course for Web Connection that's very broad and goes from 0-60 and suitable for absolute beginners to intermediate Web Connection developers.

  • An advanced course touching more on modern topics: More focus on design topics (HTML, CSS), on using AJAX, and on building Mobile aware content.

I'm also open to suggestions.

I'd love to hear from you!
