Thanks Bob, it certainly did the trick and got rid of the 404 error and my WC server is up and running now.
That (uncheck the script map restriction option) was the only step I missed (as I went back and check, it was there in plain sight on the configuration instruction Rick sent me earlier).
All my problems started when I did not run the console/setup routine as admin and the configuration was done half way. My effort to finish the rest with manual procedures only made matter worse.
Actually the console/setup from version 5.20 did work with IIS 8 under Windows 2012 (run as admin) after I cleared/deleted/removed/reset all previously installed web connection files/settings, etc. I would have uninstalled/reinstalled the IIS 8 if it were possible.
Anyway, thanks a million and you and Rick really saved my day.

One thing you might want to check on the scriptmap is the default flag for the file should exist.
Go to Handler Mappings
Edit your script map
click on Request Restrictions...
verify the checkbox for "Invoke handler only if request is for:" is UNCHECKED!

Hi Rick,

Sorry for the last reply with no comments. Hit the Post key too soon.
I've gone through all the steps in the config guide and was able to get rid of the HTTP 500 Internal Error message; but not the HTTP 404 page not found message when I tried any requests (wc.dll or wc.wc no difference)

Several questionable areas:
1. I'm running IIS 8 under 2012 server, but the Console routine only offered IIS 6 as an option;
2. after firing up my WC server, the West Wind status screen has the wc.ini grayed out; so I don't know where the config info is coming from or if it has anything to do with my problem.
Thanks again for your kind help always.

Try running the script map instead:

Direct dll access requires special configuration in IIS and is not allowed by default.

Need help on IIS setup.
We are migrating from a working WC app on Windows server 2003 to 2012, Web Connection 5.20.
After running the WC setup.exe for configuration, I now see the following IE error:
"HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error" while trying to run the Hello World demo routine (http://localhost/wconnect/wc.dll?wwdemo~TestPage~&Name=Rick&Company=West+Wind).

The detailed error message:

==========================
Detailed Error Information:
Module
IsapiModule
Notification
ExecuteRequestHandler
Handler
ISAPI-dll
Error Code
0x800700c1

Requested URL
http://localhost:80/wconnect/wc.dll?wwdemo~TestPage~&Name=Rick&Company=West+Wind

Physical Path
C:\cmi\www\wconnect\wc.dll
Logon Method
Anonymous
Logon User

The Application Pools and Handler Mappings both look OK for WC components.
Thanks in advance.
