Thanks for your input.
The folder is a shared folder on a server. The Previous versions feature is switched off to save disk space. At least we have a backup from the early hours of yesterday morning so we only lost a single days information. At times like this I'm so glad we take regular backups!!
If anyone else has any ideas they are still welcome.
Here's a shot in the dark...
Is the .DBF in a shared directory visible to users? Possibly a user right clicked on the .DBF and chose "Previous versions", then restored the December 20th version. They might not have understood the consequences of doing that.
I have seen a DBF overwritten by another workstation while it was open. In my case it was sloppy programming, but I haven't tested to see when it is possible otherwise.

Hi,
I just had a really wierd situation arise. One of our internal applications (written in VFP and using .DBF files) just had it's .DBF files overwritten with a copy from 20th December 2012.
I have no idea where the files came from or even how they got overwritten because there were various people actively using the application (which holds all the .DBFs open whilst in use).
My initial question is:
Is anyone aware of a way to overwrite a DBF file and it's associated CDX file whilst it is open in a VFP application?
Apart from that, is there anything anyone is aware of that may be specifc to 20th December last year? Server wise, VFP wise, anything?? I know I'm clutching at straws but at the moment am drawing a complete blank on this...
Any help would be very much appeciated.
TIA
