No, I'm not using Copy Topic (or at least not trying to). I thought I was writing out the steps clearly, but let me try again:

1. Enter text into the Main tab of a Help Builder topic.
2. Click on Topic Links tab.
3. Select the topic filename (such as _3o11btt8t.htm), and copy it.
4. Switch to Visual Studio (purpose being to paste the topic filename in the HelpKeyword property of a control.) I just tried switching to Word, with the same result.
5. Switch back to WWHelpBuilder.
6. Click on New Topic button (just above list of topics). "Create New Topic" window appears.
7. Click Next (not changing from "Insert topic at the current level"), enter topic title, click Next, click Finish.
8. I see the text from the prior topic displayed in the Main tab.

I've shut down and restarted WWHB, with the same results.

If it's still not clear, I can take a screen video and send it to you.

Kelvin

Hi Kelvin,

Sorry, but I can't duplicate this but I'm not really sure I follow what you're describing.

It sounds like what you're doing is Copy Topic, which creates a new topic with the same content as the current topic. This is on the right click menu in the tree - highlight a topic, then Copy Topic after which you get to choose a new name and then the topic is created with the new name but most of the content of the old topic the same.

New Topic has a completely different interface. Are you seeing the New Topic Wizard when you see this failure? The new topic Wizard always creates a new topic and there should never be any remnants of old content in there other than the topic type possibly.

If that's not what you're seeing give me exact steps - I can't duplicate off the steps you gave.

My original reason for wanting to report a bug (see previous message) is that in certain circumstances, the text for a topic is being carried over when I create a new topic. The simplest scenario I can find for it is:

Enter text for a help topic
Click on Topic Links
Copy the topic filename
Switch to another application (I'm doing this to set the HelpKeyword in Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic). It doesn't seem to be necessary to do anything in the other application.
Switch back to Help Builder.
Click on New Topic, and create a topic (note that Topic Links is the active tab during the new topic creation).
The new topic has the text associated with the previous topic.

With these steps, it's pretty consistent; changing just about anything in this sequence makes the new topic appear properly blank.
