Hey Rick,

Ok, everything is in place so at this point I suspect what I'm going to need to do is uninstall VS2012, scrub the system down and re-install. Help Builder is doing what it is supposed to. VS 2012 is not. :)

Thank you sir!

Doug

Doug,

Check the

<Documents>\Visual Studio 2012\Addins

folder. Is the HtmlHelperBuilderAddin.addin file there?

That's really the only thing that needs to happen. There's no registration or anything else that needs to happen to make it work.

It should contain:

<<pre class="codeblock">

<?xmlversion="1.0" encoding="UTF-16" standalone="no"?>
<Extensibility xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AutomationExtensibility">
<HostApplication>
<Name>Microsoft Visual Studio Macros</Name>
<Version>11.0</Version>
</HostApplication>
<HostApplication>
<Name>Microsoft Visual Studio</Name>
<Version>11.0</Version>
</HostApplication>
<Addin>
<FriendlyName>West Wind Html Help Builder Visual Studio Addin</FriendlyName>
<Description>West Wind Html Help Builder Visual Studio Addin</Description>
<AboutBoxDetails>West Wind Html Help Builder for Visual Studio.\r\n\r\n<<span class="elements"><ahref="http://west-wind.com/wwhelp\r\n©" target="top" >http://west-wind.com/wwhelp\r\n©<<span class="elements"></a>> 2003-2012 West Wind Technologies</AboutBoxDetails>
<AboutIconData></AboutIconData>
<Assembly>C:\Program Files (x86)\West Wind Html Help Builder\vsAddIn\HtmlHelpBuilderAddin.dll</Assembly>
<FullClassName>HelpBuilderAutomation.AddinVs2005</FullClassName>
<LoadBehavior>1</LoadBehavior>
<CommandPreload>1</CommandPreload>
<CommandLineSafe>0</CommandLineSafe>
</Addin>
</Extensibility>

You might have to change the path to the dll...

Hi Rick,

Just got back to this..

No joy. Uninstalled then re-installed and appeared to update. Then uninstalled again, manually deleted remaining files in install directory and re-installed. Nope. Uninstalled again and discovered no files in installation directory (progress :)). Rebooted, ran CleanMyPc registry cleaner. Nothing west-wind related shows up so installed again and this time got prompted for registration. Entered registration code and the last file I worked on opened so something is hanging around.

Also earlier I deleted VS2008 & 2010 and thoroughly scrubbed registry.

So, at this point, unless you have a flash of insight, I say bag it. I'm planning on building a new 64-bit development desktop here in a month or two so that will give me a fresh start. I am awfully hard on my computers sometimes and I'd suspect I've bunged something up somewhere.

Now, if you wanted to give me the file and content where link is made I can manually make that change to see what happens. I am thinking there's an XML file somewhere you insert stuff but again not really a big deal as I'm going to start fresh here after a bit and I can certainly manage until then. :)

Thanks!

Doug

Hi Doug,

Hmmm... that's odd. Works for me... and it definitely should. Even the 2010 plug-in should work if you have VS2012 as it reads plug-ins from the VS2010 plug-ins folder (if it's not duplicated).

Can you download the latest version of Help Builder? There's a more current build up there but it hasn't been on the auto-update just yet...

Hi Rick,

Say, when attempting to register the Help Builder in Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate it does not 'take'. I actually have 2008, 2010 Ult & 2012 Ult so maybe that's causing the issue. I was able to add and remove (multiple times) the connection from both 2008 & 2010 without any issue so it's just 2012 that's giving me fits.

I'll go ahead and uninstall the two earlier versions, reboot and try again but thought I'd mention it to you in case you had any suggestions.

Thanks.

Doug
