If your using the later versions of WC, you could use the wwHTMLHelpers library wich lets you use elements the way you do with the Web Control Framework.
Check out the online help topic Library wwHtmlHelpers for details.
This topic shows how to customize an htmlDataGrid by column but you might also be able to override a cell's rendering with your query, ala the old html grid.

Can webconnect be used to change the colour of a piece of text or even the background colour of a cell depending on the value of a field?
eg if value is 5, then we want the http://west-wind.com/webconnection/docs/_3361eqop8.htm webconnect amnd even more importantly on a HTM page being called from the command Response.ExpandTemplate?
