We have many custom systems in our organization, including a website based on Web Connection. For the most part, these systems have been a huge success for us as we've grown. However, one of the areas where we've struggled has been the accounting backend. Right now, we dump down (usually in the aggregate) to Peachtree and our Finance Dept. just deals with the issues that causes, which sometimes means spending the weekend getting the books straight.

We've been looking into various ERP systems like Syspro, Infor, Epicor, etc. These systems look great to Finance because they do accounting well. However, we're learning that being everything to everyone means you're not much use to anyone (except maybe accounting).

So, I know there's Quickbooks Pro and Peachtree Complete and a few others but what about the next level? Are there slap in accounting systems I can drive programmatically from .NET that will handle a mid-sized company's needs? Is that what Microsoft Dynamics and Axapta is for? What are "the players" in this arena?
