Web Edition is just a really stripped down version of Server - it doesn't include most of the other "Server" services that are in the other server editions. You can still run apps and COM will work just fine. For hosting Web Connection it should be fine...

As to Sql Server - I think you should be able to install any version of it on there, but I'm not sure. Maybe somebody else can comment on that...

How does the 2008 R2 web server version work? will only sql*express work with it (that's OK by me)? Can you run a COM application on it? In other words will the 2008 web server edition do everything you need to run a webConnect application?

Good price, but it's a pretty low powered machine, plus it's a virtual machine which has additional overhead. Be curious how well things work on that, though...
